Biography
Longtime friends Rich Collins, Scott Durbin, Dave Poche, and Scott "Smitty" Smith launched Imagination Movers in New Orleans, Louisiana, during 2003. The quartet originated as a television idea submitted to area PBS outlets, where brief one-minute clips they created soon aired on local channels. Their focus on upbeat, educational material for children also featured grooves and tunes that appealed to grown-ups, quickly building a loyal regional audience spanning various ages. Several self-released albums followed—Good Ideas in 2003, Calling All Movers in 2004, and Eight Feet in 2005—plus the 2004 DVD Stir It Up. Although Disney began pursuing the band in 2005, Hurricane Katrina’s destruction severely disrupted the New Orleans group, delaying an official agreement until spring 2006. Their debut Disney project, Juice Box Heroes, arrived in 2008, the same year they joined Disney’s Playhouse Disney preschool lineup with a program titled Imagination Movers. A follow-up Disney release, For Those About to Hop, emerged in 2009.
