Biography
After the Bee Gees mounted a major comeback via the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack in 1977, their youngest brother Andy launched a solo career of his own. Adopting the same disco approach that had revived his siblings’ fortunes, Andy Gibb saw his opening trio of singles—“I Just Want to Be Your Everything,” “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water,” and “Shadow Dancing”—each reach the top of the charts. Three additional Top Ten singles arrived in quick succession, confirming his sudden stardom. Although “Desire” still managed to peak at number four, his run of high-charting releases began to fade in 1980, and the next year brought his final Top 40 entry, “Me (Without You).” Following a short period hosting Solid Gold, Gibb shifted his focus to acting but never matched the scale of his earlier musical achievements. A severe cocaine habit developed, ultimately resulting in his death from an inflammatory heart virus in 1988 at the age of thirty.
