Biography
Pablo Cruise enjoyed moderate acclaim toward the close of the 1970s thanks to their relaxed, sun-drenched brand of California pop. Former Stoneground and It's a Beautiful Day musicians—guitarist Dave Jenkins, keyboardist Cory Lerios, bassist Bud Cockrell, and drummer Steve Price—launched the ensemble in 1973. Critical recognition for strong songwriting and musicianship greeted the self-titled debut and Lifeline, which paved the way for the Top Ten single “Whatcha Gonna Do?” from 1977’s A Place in the Sun. After Cockrell departed, ex-Santana bassist Bruce Day stepped in. Both Worlds Away and its predecessor earned platinum certification, while the former yielded three charting tracks, among them the Top Ten entry “Love Will Find a Way.” Once new wave dominated the early-’80s charts, the quartet’s fortunes faded with mainstream listeners. Tracks by Pablo Cruise later surfaced in ABC, CBS, and NBC sports broadcasts, as well as the motion pictures Free Ride, An Unmarried Woman, and Dreamer.
