Growing up amid a household steeped in Latin music traditions, multi-instrumentalist Andy Harlow emerged as the son of bassist Buddy Harlow and the brother of pianist Larry Harlow. His early enthusiasm for performance led him to take up music during high school years. Earning a bachelor’s degree in Music Education followed by a master’s in Ethnic Music later drew him toward the saxophone, where he mastered varied techniques and soon performed alongside Tito Rodríguez, Ismael Rivera, Tito Puente, and other leading Latin figures. His involvement with Fania All-Stars paved the way for a solo debut on the album Sorpresa la Flauta and the formation of his own ensemble, Latin Fever. Relocating from New York to Miami in the late-’70s, he assembled the new outfit Salsamania to explore Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms.
