Los Angeles native Brian Allen Simon records under the name Anenon and weaves electronic and acoustic elements, among them his own fluttering saxophone playing, into dreamy soundscapes that merge ambient music, jazz improvisation, modern composition, and abstract beats. In 2010 he launched the experimental imprint Non Projects, whose earliest releases included a split EP recorded with his frequent collaborator Asura, also known as Ryan York. Simon joined the 2011 Red Bull Music Academy and supplied remixes for Take, Shlohmo, and yuk. The following year brought the Acquiescence EP and the Inner Hue LP, the latter featuring some of his most beat-driven work to that point; he also launched a monthly radio show called Non Projections on the Los Angeles internet station Dublab and closed out the year by touring Japan alongside Leaving Records founder Matthewdavid. The Sunset and Clocks EP surfaced in 2013, followed in 2014 by the full-length Sagrada and its accompanying remix EP. Camembert, an EP issued on his new label Friends of Friends, appeared in 2015, and his third album, Petrol, arrived the next year. Placing greater emphasis on his ambient and jazz leanings, Petrol quickly became his most widely praised release so far. Throughout 2016 Simon co-curated Monument, a series of ambient performances held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. His fourth album, Tongue, was released in February 2018.
