Biography
Angelo Moore, who supplies vocals and saxophone, answers also to the name Dr. Madd Vibe, although his widest recognition comes from fronting Fishbone, the high-octane ensemble that revives seventies funk and ska. He assembled the band in 1979 together with Chris Dowd on trombone and keyboards, Walter Kibby on trumpet, horn, and vocals, Kendall Jones on guitar, John Norwood Fisher on bass, and Philip "Fish" Fisher on drums. Columbia Records issued Fishbone’s self-titled EP in 1985. The song “Party at Ground Zero” turned into a cult favorite on American alternative and college radio, while “Modern Industry,” an eccentric blend of mechanical voices and recited station call letters, drove heavy requests throughout the Philippines. Fishbone’s quick shifts from funk into hard rock, however, left more listeners puzzled than captivated. During the late eighties and throughout the nineties, the group watched acts it had influenced—Living Colour, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and No Doubt—reach the commercial peaks that continued to elude Fishbone. In 1995 Moore began composing and reciting poetry under the name Dr. Madd Vibe. In that guise he completed an album, a book, and a video issued collectively as The Missing Link Presents...Dr. Madd Vibe's Comprehensive Linkology.
