Hailing from Colombia, Aniceto Molina—widely recognized by the nickname El Tigre Sabanero—built a multi-decade career as a vallenato cumbia singer and accordionist whose audience stretched across the Americas. He entered the world in El Campano and first took up the accordion at the age of 12. Between 1973 and 1984 he made his home in Mexico City, where he rose to prominence as a recording artist, before relocating in 1984 to San Antonio, Texas, which remained his base thereafter. Across subsequent years he maintained an active touring schedule alongside his group Los Sabaneros, cultivating a loyal listenership that reached from North America through Central America and into South America. Among the tracks most closely identified with him are “La Cumbia Sampuesana,” “Josefina,” “Apartamento #3,” “La Burra Tuerta,” “El Condor Legendario,” and “La Campanera.” Countless studio albums appeared under his name, supplemented by repeated greatest-hits collections whose total number defies easy enumeration.
