Anny, the flamboyant pop rocker from Chicago, creates original songs that fuse the sensibilities of Joni Mitchell and Tori Amos with those of Elton John and Freddie Mercury. In her formative period she gravitated toward the rock musicals Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair, sharpening her voice by singing along with their soundtracks. After completing her studies at Harvard University she moved to Los Angeles to chase rock superstardom. Recording of her debut album, Strange and Beautiful, began in 1996, yet the project remained unreleased until May 2001. The extended delay occurred because her original label, Risk Records, folded soon after sessions started; she later shifted to Uncommon Sound and teamed with producer Craig Snider (Madonna, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan).
