Jax Jones, a DJ and producer rooted in London, crafts bright and energizing house productions that draw from an eclectic mix of pop, R&B, hip-hop, and funk. His breakthrough arrived via the 2014 track “I Got U,” a number-one U.K. smash created in tandem with Duke Dumont. A steady succession of successful releases followed, pairing him with artists such as Demi Lovato, Years & Years, and Tove Lo; these tracks later appeared together on the 2019 album Snacks (Supersize). Jones launched the project Europa alongside Martin Solveig while still issuing solo work, among them the 2021 EP Deep Joy and the U.K. Top 40 entries “Out Out” (with Joel Corry, Charli XCX, and Saweetie) and “Where Did You Go?” (featuring MNEK). In 2023 he joined Calum Scott for the hit single “Whistle” and added further recordings including “Won’t Forget You” (with D.O.D and Ina Wroldsen).
Born Timucin Fabian Kwong Wah Aluo in 1987, he absorbed rap, gospel, Afrobeat, and a broad spectrum of other styles during his youth before producing beats as a teenager, at first focusing on hip-hop. Exposure to house came after he connected with Duke Dumont; their resulting collaboration “I Got U” quickly topped the U.K. singles chart upon its early-2014 release. Jones issued his first solo single, “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” in 2015 and contributed to Dumont’s summery success “Ocean Drive.” The 2016 release “House Work” spotlighted British vocalist MNEK together with Chicago house veteran Mike Dunn. His next single, “You Don’t Know Me,” carried vocals from U.K. singer RAYE and registered major global success, landing inside the Top Ten across numerous international charts.
In 2017 he delivered “Instruction,” assisted by Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don. The 2018 single “Ring Ring” united Mabel with Rich the Kid, while “Play,” featuring Years & Years, surfaced in early 2019. These cuts were gathered on the 2018 EP Snacks, which later expanded into the full-length Snacks (Supersize). Issued in September 2019, the album also included appearances from Bebe Rexha, Martin Solveig, and Tove Lo. A separate remix collection, Midnight Snacks 001, closed out the year.
With Solveig, Jones formed the duo Europa, releasing “All Day and Night” (already featured on his album) and the 2020 single “Tequila,” the latter certified gold in the U.K. That same year “I Miss U,” recorded with Au/Ra, also performed strongly. Jones reworked “Prisoner” by Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa in 2021 and unveiled the four-track EP Deep Joy. He reached the U.K. Top Ten once more via “Out Out,” a Joel Corry collaboration that spotlighted Charli XCX and Saweetie. Another Top 40 placement arrived in 2022 with “Where Did You Go?,” again featuring MNEK; “Good Luck” (with Mabel and Galantis) and “Lonely Heart” (with Martin Solveig and Gracey) likewise charted. “Whistle,” cut with Calum Scott, arrived in 2023. Subsequent collaborations encompassed Fireboy DML on “Me and My Guitar,” plus work with D.O.D on both “Need You Now” and “Won’t Forget You” (with Ina Wroldsen).
