Biography
A passionate and warm-voiced Filipino singer and actor, Ariel Rivera specializes in melodic pop within the adult contemporary genre. José Ariel Jiménez Rivera entered the world in Manila during 1966 before relocating to Canada, where architectural work occupied his time until a 1989 trip home to the Philippines led to his discovery as a vocalist and subsequent first record deal. Southeast Asia embraced his debut album, which eventually earned triple-platinum certification. Two additional albums quickly followed in the form of 1992's Simple Lang and the gold-certified 1995 release Photograph, both containing the tracks "Narito Ako" and "I Must Have Loved You." Rivera ventured into acting around the same time, appearing in multiple movies and securing the Best Supporting Actor prize at the 1992 Metro Manila Film Festival. The remainder of the 1990s saw further acclaimed records such as 1997's Getting to Know and 1999's Aawitin Ko Na Lang.... Despite a growing focus on performance, particularly television roles, he persisted with music through projects like 2001's In My Life and 2008's Once Again. The year 2016 marked the beginning of his starring role in the GMA network drama Hahamakin ang Lahat.
