Ataxia

The supergroup Ataxia brought together guitarist John Frusciante on guitars and vocals, bassist Joe Lally on bass and vocals, and Josh Klinghoffer on drums, synthesizer, and vocals. During the same stretch when Frusciante was issuing a rapid series of solo projects, the Warner-distributed imprint Record Collection put out Automatic Writing in 2004, culled from a selection of the trio’s recording sessions. Drawing partial influence from Public Image Limited’s Metal Box, the release presented five lengthy, roaming tracks that carried a distinctly off-the-cuff character.
