Automat

Three veteran players from Germany comprise the hypnotic groove outfit Automat, fusing shadowy funk with jazz inflections, fresh psychedelic hues, and insistent pulses that extend the lineage of post-Krautrock. In 2011 guitarist and electronics manipulator Jochen Arbeit, formerly of Die Haut and Einstürzende Neubauten, began casual sessions with bassist and radio-play producer zeitblom of Sovetskoe Foto plus in-demand session drummer and programmer Achim Färber, whose credits include Project Pitchfork and Phillip Boa. Club dates started early the following year, swiftly cultivating an ardent and energetic audience. Across the ensuing two years the trio refined a visceral, clockwork trance pulse that drew rock listeners and EDM followers alike. Bureau B released their self-titled debut album in spring 2014, showcasing guest appearances by Lydia Lunch, Genesis P-Orridge, and Blixa Bargeld.
