Belgian-born producer and DJ Joris Biesmans crafts finely tuned, joyous techno shaped by electro and space disco. After serving as a sound technician at Berlin’s Watergate club, he continues to perform there regularly and issues material on the venue’s own imprint, among them the 2021 album Trains, Planes & Automobiles and the 2022 compilation Watergate 28.

He first recorded under the alias Cashmere, placing early cuts on Steve Lawler’s VIVA Recordings. After completing studies at the PXL music academy in Hasselt, Belgium, Biesmans relocated to Berlin in 2013; there he took up the Watergate sound-technician post and launched TVe Recordings. Under the latter banner he issued two EPs—Farewell in 2016, featuring remixes by Legowelt and Asok, followed by Noas Statue in 2017—before switching to releases under his own name. John Digweed selected Biesmans’ track “New House” for the 2017 mix Bedrock: Frequencies. The vinyl EPs Steady Stabbin’ and Angry Baby appeared in 2018; additional singles and EPs followed, the first of which on Watergate being 2020’s Electric Love EP. Drawing closer to an ’80s synth-pop and Hi-NRG aesthetic, he delivered the full-length Trains, Planes & Automobiles together with the EP Heroes After Dark in 2021. Watergate 28 arrived the next year, every track produced or co-produced by Biesmans and featuring joint work with Mathew Jonson, Johannes Albert, Dusky, and additional artists.
