Berlin-based DJ and producer Annegret Fiedler, performing under the name Perel, crafts deep and atmospheric club material shaped by house, new wave, and disco traditions. Her first album arrived in 2018 as Hermetica, a post-punk-tinged full-length issued through the influential Brooklyn indie dance imprint DFA; she later joined the roster of the longstanding German techno label Kompakt for the 2022 philosophical dance release Jesus Was an Alien.

Born in the eastern German region of Saxony, Fiedler started composing on her grandmother’s piano during childhood and has long cited the Eurythmics as a formative reference. Relocating to Halle for studies introduced her to the local independent circuit, where she frequented gatherings in derelict structures and other hidden spots. She performed vocals and instruments in punk rock and electropop groups while also spinning 1980s synth pop and minimal wave vinyl. After settling in Berlin during 2010, she launched the Perel project in 2012. The initial single “BodyTalk,” a hip-house throwback with Abba Lang, appeared on the Leipzig label O*RS in 2014. She quickly established herself as a recurring DJ across German venues, with the follow-up singles “Amin” and “Charles Manson” emerging in 2016. DFA signed her in 2017, introducing her with the dark space-disco track “Die Dimension,” whose stark and restrained vocals preceded the 2018 album Hermetica, which merged post-punk guitar textures with cosmic disco tension; the CD version included reworkings by Jayda G and Massimiliano Pagliara.

Fiedler contributed to Curses’ Gold & Silber EP, then delivered Karlsson via Uncanny Valley in 2019. Running Back put out the Star EP in 2021. Her second album, Jesus Was an Alien, surfaced on Kompakt the next year, with Marie Davidson providing guest vocals on the title track.
