Biography
Billy Boy on Poison forged a debauched, glammy, gender-bending strain of rock & roll that carried the glittery DNA of the New York Dolls. The co-ed outfit first assembled in 2006 after L.A. native Davis LeDuke (vocals) started recruiting players, beginning with schoolmates Ryan Wallengren (guitar) and Julian Borrego (bass). His cousin Jessi Calcaterra, who had been living in Colorado, moved to town to take the drum chair, while guitarist Greg West came aboard once he discovered LeDuke’s tracks on MySpace. Once the five-piece was locked in, the still-teenaged musicians worked the L.A. club scene and drew notice from veteran figures such as singer/songwriter Jude Cole. Cole, struck by their stage show, placed the group on Ironworks Music—the independent imprint he had launched with actor Kiefer Sutherland. The band’s first official release reached stores in early 2008 when Ironworks issued the Sweet Mess EP; twelve months later Drama Junkie Queen became their inaugural full-length album.
