Hailing from Los Angeles, Bloodboy fuses post-punk textures with pop songcraft while confronting assumptions around gender and selfhood. Born Lexie Papilion in San Clemente, California, the artist channels the visceral force of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O, Juliette Lewis, and Debbie Harry, pairing that edge with melodic and rhythmic instincts shaped by the Clash and David Bowie. Songwriting began in elementary school, producing an early original track about September 11 at age eleven. Piano and voice instruction led briefly to competitive opera singing, yet high-school years were defined by another arena: representing the United States surf team as a professional. After college, where studies centered on pre-law, her mother urged a full commitment to music, a dynamic captured in the song "Mom, I've Changed." Early releases included the debut single "Human Female," produced by Justin L. Raisen (Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira), and the pleading "Hey Kid," which recalled Bowie's work with Brian Eno. The six-song debut EP, Best of Bloodboy, arrived in late 2016. Recorded in Arnaudville, Louisiana with producer Thom Monahan, the collection foregrounded post-punk and electro rock alongside confessional writing.
