Branko

Operating from Lisbon, electronic music creator João Barbosa adopts the alias Branko for his productions, DJ sets, and label operations, achieving worldwide recognition toward the end of the 2000s alongside the Portuguese dance group Buraka Som Sistema. His style fuses techno rhythms with African musical forms such as zouk and kuduro, and he established the well-regarded Enchufada imprint dedicated to advancing comparable international electronic explorations. Following the gradual dissolution of Buraka Som Sistema, Barbosa resurfaced under the Branko name during 2015 with the album Atlas, an energetic release drawing from global journeys and incorporating guest appearances by Princess Nokia, Nonku Phiri, and Mr. Carmack. The following year saw the release of an extended version, and 2017 brought the collection Branko Presents: Enchufada Na Zona, drawn from his ongoing Lisbon-based monthly radio program of that title. Early 2018 marked the appearance of the track "MPTS" with contributions from DJ Pedro, which later appeared on the 2019 album Nosso.
