London-based Mr. Mitch ranks among grime’s most celebrated second-wave producers, crafting sparse, emotionally charged pieces drawn from personal relationships and domestic experience instead of raw, club-oriented excess. His deliberate, atmospheric compositions share greater kinship with ambient soundscapes and R&B than with hip-hop or garage, remaining candid and affecting even in purely instrumental form. In 2010 he established Gobstopper Records, later issuing the instrumental album Parallel Memories in 2014 and the vocal-centric Devout in 2017 through Planet Mu; his third studio effort, Lazy, arrived in 2021 as a varied collection blending grime, techno, and downtempo material.

Miles Mitchell began issuing music in 2010 with the Fright Night EP on his own Gobstopper imprint. Subsequent material surfaced on that label plus Slit Jockey and Beatfighter, while he supplied beats for grime MCs including Skepta, Riko Dan, and Trim. In 2012 he offered the free online album Searching, Vol. 1: Venus. The following year he helped launch the grime-centric club night Boxed alongside Logos, Slackk, and Oil Gang founder Simon Hiscocks; he also distributed the gratis EP Peace Dubs, Vol. 1, featuring reinterpretations of tracks by Wiley, Plastician, Faze Miyake, and additional grime artists. Conceived as a counterpoint to the combative “war dubs” prevalent at the time, the release steered the genre toward a leaner, more introspective path. Gobstopper, by then a prominent name in grime circles, put out EPs from Strict Face and Dark0 that likewise emphasized space and feeling, while Boxed progressed from digital compilations to vinyl EPs.

After the 2014 Gobstopper release The Room Where I Belong EP, Mitch joined Mike Paradinas’ Planet Mu roster. The EP Don’t Leave, whose title track centered on a sample from American R&B group Blackstreet, immediately preceded the December arrival of Parallel Memories. The album earned widespread praise and was ranked number two on FACT’s year-end list. Mitch’s sole 2015 output was the 12-inch The Man Waits, which included remixes of the lead track from his prior EP. During 2016 he produced material for Katy B, P Money, and Py, and he collaborated with ambient grime artist Yamaneko on the self-titled EP Yaroze Dream Suite for Local Action. Planet Mu issued Mitch’s second full-length, Devout, in 2017; moving further from grime, the minimalist pop and R&B record drew inspiration from family life and incorporated vocals from Mitch, his children, and contributors Palmistry and Denai Moore. The Devout Remixes EP followed in early 2018.

Gobstopper released the stark Primary Progressive EP in late 2018, which confronted Mitch’s father’s struggle with multiple sclerosis. In 2019 Pressure issued the dancehall-tinged Not Modular 12-inch, featuring remixes by label head the Bug. Several digital projects appeared in 2020, among them two albums of previously unreleased early recordings, the Patrimony EP, and Songs with My Sons; proceeds from the latter supported the purchase of video game consoles for his children. Lazy arrived as a full-length in 2021, featuring guest contributions from Duval Timothy and Manga Saint Hilaire.
