Bristol-rooted electronic artist Tom Ford, known professionally as Peverelist, carries ties to bass music and techno yet has consistently operated outside their conventional boundaries. As founder of the pivotal imprints Punch Drunk Records and Livity Sound, he has become a central figure in the city’s electronic community, issuing tightly constructed albums such as the 2009 release Jarvik Mindstate and the 2017 set Tessellations. Although his recent catalog has appeared at a measured pace, the caliber of the material has stayed elevated; the 2023 EP Pulse, for instance, showcased luminous, uncluttered textures rich in character and nuance.

Born in Essex during the 1990s, Ford absorbed rock music in his formative years, yet the regional prevalence of hardcore and jungle gradually drew his attention. Upon reaching eighteen he relocated to Bristol to immerse himself in its club environment. There he began producing tracks alongside housemate and collaborator Pinch, concentrating on jungle and related sound-system styles using rudimentary software. He later took on management duties at the influential local retailer Rooted, where he encountered many of the scene’s pivotal figures. As dubstep gained traction in London, Bristol maintained its own active circuit that attracted less notice, prompting Ford to launch Punch Drunk Records in 2006 to champion that community. Following several 12-inch releases by himself and others, he delivered his first album on the label, Jarvik Mindstate, in 2009.

Over time Ford’s approach to bass music diverged from prevailing dubstep trends, steering him toward techno and inspiring the 2011 founding of Livity Sound with Asusu and Kowton. The imprint steadily earned esteem for its distinctive vision. While label operations occupied much of his focus, occasional productions continued; in 2017 he issued his second full-length album, Tessellations. Hypnotic yet nimble, the record reinforced his standing among Bristol’s leading techno figures. Solo output thereafter remained intermittent: the two-track EP IDLE050 appeared in 2018, succeeded three years later by the concise joint single “Exhale” with Kowton. Ford resumed longer-form work with the economical four-track Pulse EP in 2023.
