Biography
Bristol, England native Jake Martin crafts intensely rhythmic club tracks under the alias Hodge. His productions shift across house, techno, and post-dubstep palettes yet remain anchored by powerful grooves and weighty low end. The earliest Hodge material consisted of enveloping deep house cuts that echoed his contributions to Outboxx, the duo he formed with Matthew Lambert. Beginning with the 2012 Dusted EP on Deadplate Records, the aesthetic turned more shadowy and inventive. Peverelist, founder of the Punch Drunk label, exerted a major influence on the direction, prompting their initial joint effort, the 2013 single “Bells.” Subsequent releases surfaced on Livity Sound, Tempa, Hemlock, and Berceuse Heroique, elevating Hodge to one of underground bass music’s most prominent figures. Further partnerships followed, including the 2016 single “Second Freeze” with Randomer and 2017’s All My Love EP alongside Peder Mannerfelt. Momentum continued through tracks such as Tru with Laurel Halo and Beneath Two Moons, culminating in his first full-length statement, the album Shadows in Blue.
