Biography
Born in France yet residing in Berlin, Hermione Frank produces abstract, slyly playful dance music as rRoxymore. She constructs her pieces live through a laptop paired with analog gear, yielding highly exploratory tracks that frequently weave in complex polyrhythms and favor late-night listening over peak-time club play. After issuing several well-received EPs, she delivered her debut full-length, Face to Phase, in 2019 before returning in 2022 with the downtempo-leaning EP I Wanted More and the full-length Perpetual Now.
Originally hailing from Montpellier, Frank entered the dance music scene upon relocating to Paris, where she began DJing house, disco, jazz, and additional styles. Her growing interest in blending electronic and organic instrumentation led to collaborations with Ekova and Speed Caravan, two contrasting projects that both spotlighted Algerian oud player Mehdi Haddab.
Once settled in Berlin, Frank concentrated on solo dance-music production. Her first outing under the rRoxymore name, the ten-minute epic “Wheel of Fortune,” surfaced on a 2012 split 12" shared with Planningtorock and appeared via the latter’s Human Level label, which also issued the 2013 Precarious/Precious EP. In 2014 she supplied remixes for Perera Elsewhere, C.A.R., and the Knife. Following the 2015 Decon/Recon #1 EP, a joint effort with Oni Ayhun, Aquarian Jugs, and Jaguar Woman, Stefan Goldmann’s Macro label put out the Tautologies EP. She contributed to the self-titled 2016 album by Karachi Files alongside artists such as Gebr. Teichmann and Taprikk Sweezee. That same year saw the Organ Smith EP on Don’t Be Afraid, followed in 2017 by Thoughts of an Introvert, Pt. 1 on the same imprint. rRoxymore’s “Tropicalcore” featured on Ostgut Ton’s Berghain 08 EP in 2018; Thoughts of an Introvert, Pt. 2 arrived the same year, with the full-length Face to Phase appearing in 2019.
Subsequent remixes for E-Dancer (Kevin Saunderson), Doc Sleep, and BNJMN preceded her inclusion on the Tresor 30 compilation in 2021. Marking her first release in three years, I Wanted More came out via Aus Music in 2022, while Perpetual Now, an album comprising four lengthy soundscapes, followed in October.
