Biography
Originating from Turkey, beatmaker Sami Baha draws influence from Dirty South hip-hop figures such as DJ Screw, resulting in his creation of deliberate, atmospheric beats featuring profound low-end frequencies and striking sample elements. Istanbul serves as his birthplace, where exposure to Arabesk, the widely enjoyed local genre, shaped his sound, although the output aligns more with an atmospheric, beat-driven interpretation of Southern rap. In the initial years of the 2010s, he supplied material for digital Turkish hip-hop collections, which led to notice from innovative grime artists including Why Be and M.E.S.H., prompting his relocation to London during 2015. Appearances followed on Rinse FM and NTS Radio, preceding the April 2016 release of his introductory EP Mavericks via Planet Mu. The same imprint put out his debut album Free for All in 2018, featuring contributions from DJ Nate and Yung Lean.
