Julio Bashmore, a Bristol native working as a DJ, producer, and label head, focused chiefly on house tracks laced with U.K. bass elements. Securing a slot for an EP on Claude VonStroke’s Dirtybird imprint in 2009 marked his initial breakthrough and led him to abandon university plans so he could keep performing and creating music full-time. From 2011 through 2012 he placed material on Soul Motive, 3024, Future Boogie, and PMR Records, among them the club favorite “Battle for Middle You.” That same year he launched his own Broadwalk Records and began issuing his own cuts there alongside releases by Maddslinky (Zed Bias), Kowton, and FunkinEven. One of those Broadwalk tracks, “Au Sève,” quickly became a staple on dance floors and festival stages. In 2014 he issued the single “Peppermint,” which featured U.K. vocalist Jessie Ware and debuted at number 57 on the charts. Several follow-up singles paved the path to his first proper album, Knockin’ Boots, which arrived in 2015.
