Adam Kaye and George Townsend first caught attention as the British duo Bondax after BBC Introducing featured their material, which in turn secured airplay on BBC Radio 1 through Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw. The musicians, both from Lancaster in Lancashire, issued a series of singles across 2011 and 2012—among them “Just Smile for Me” and “Baby I Got That”—that moved fluidly between styles. In 2012 they also founded their own Justus Records imprint, whose inaugural release was Karma Kid’s “It’s Always.” Work stopped the following year after the pair’s laptop, loaded with fresh recordings, disappeared during a tour stop in Bulgaria. Once they recovered from the setback they completed several new pieces, the most successful being “All I See,” which Tanya Lacey sang on and which appeared in 2014. For stage shows the twosome expanded into a full band by adding a drummer and took slots at the U.K. festivals Reading, Leeds and Latitude.
