Biography
Rowan Jones, an electronic producer and DJ based in Richmond, London, records and performs as Route 94. He first drew major attention when his single “My Love” reached the summit of the U.K. charts in March 2014. Jones entered the scene in 2010 as a dubstep artist working under the name Dream. After three of his tracks appeared on UKF Dubstep they attracted the interest of Chase & Status and then Skrillex, who issued the EP This Isn’t House on his OWSLA label. In 2012 Jones adopted the Route 94 alias, which led to several new demos and dubplates being featured on Skream and Benga’s Radio 1 show. He removed every online trace and social-media footprint connected to Dream, prompting dance-music outlets to investigate the person behind Route 94—an identity later confirmed as Jones operating under both names. During 2013 he supplied remixes for Storm Queen, Katy B, and Skream. His debut EP as Route 94, Fly 4 Life, arrived in June 2013 and was followed by a signing to Rinse FM. The track “My Love,” featuring Jess Glynne, began gaining radio play in September 2013 and gathered enough momentum to hit number one the following March. Jones also produced “Everything” for Katy B’s second album, Little Red, and released the Misunderstood EP on Leftroom Records. After concentrating on club and festival dates he returned to the release schedule in 2016 with the Fabric EP A Brand New Day. That release was succeeded in 2017 by Mind, Body & Soul on Crosstown Rebels and a remix of Sooney’s “Back to the Music” for Hot Creations.
