Australian DJ and producer Sonny Fodera crafts pop-infused electronic singles that routinely accumulate multi-million streams. He first honed his craft on unadorned house foundations before folding in pop elements and additional electronic textures. On the 2019 album Rise he fused four-on-the-floor bangers with EDM-flavored snare rolls and drops, while the 2021 album Wide Awake showcased experiments in pop styling and broader collaborative efforts. Later singles included the 2022 Gorgon City collaboration “Remember” and the bass-forward 2024 track “Somedays.”

Residing in Melbourne, Fodera started out as a hip-hop producer during his teenage years until Derrick Carter’s booming dance tracks redirected his focus toward house. In his early twenties he began DJing and creating original material, issuing his debut It’s Time EP in 2013 on Cajmere’s Cajual Records label. Later that same year came the full-length Moving Forward, followed in 2014 by the more collaborative After Parties & Aeroplanes, which featured Ari Lourdes, Low Steppa, Doorly, and additional guests. With 2016’s Frequently Flying he brought greater emphasis to lead vocals and pop sensibilities. He stayed active through remixes, compilation contributions, live performances, and sporadic EPs until the extended, mixtape-style 2019 collection Rise delivered his most refined, pop-leaning work to date.

Even as he gravitated toward pop leanings, Fodera retained a foundation of deep house rhythms and acid grooves. He persisted in merging commercially accessible hooks with his house origins on later releases, issuing versatile singles such as the 2020 Diplo collaboration “Turn Back Time” and the melodic yet danceable 2021 track “Nah” featuring lead vocals from Sinead Harnett. Further singles preceded his fifth album, Wide Awake, which arrived in October 2021 and added contributions from Ella Eyre, MKLA, Sam Tompkins, and others alongside the prior Diplo and Harnett tracks. A deluxe edition appeared in 2022, accompanied by the singles “Better” and “Remember” (with Gorgon City, Danny Howard, and Stevie Appleton). Over the next several years Fodera concentrated on standalone releases, including the house-adjacent “Asking” and the EDM banger “Like I Used To” in 2023, plus “Never Be Alone” and “Somedays” in 2024.
