Actively spinning records from 2003 onward, the Dutch tech-house producer Ferreck Dawn launched his independent digital imprint Broken Boundaries Recordings in 2008. Tracks appeared on imprints such as Broken Boundaries, Nervous Records, and Spinnin' Deep, yet his initial major success arrived with the 2014 Redondo collaboration “Love Too Deep,” which entered the U.K. Top 50.

Born Freek Coppens in Veldhoven, North Brabant, in 1985, he first experienced club culture at fifteen, drawn initially to the harder-edged techno sounds prevalent across the Netherlands at that time. Three years afterward he acquired his debut turntables and commenced DJ sets, beginning locally in Eindhoven before progressing to larger events and festivals, eventually securing a residency at DansSalon. Production work began in 2006, with early demos dispatched to various labels.

Committed to completing his studies before focusing solely on music, he fulfilled a promise to his parents by obtaining two master’s degrees while creating tracks in his free hours. Upon graduation he relocated to Amsterdam, accumulating experience through positions at record retailers and labels, notably ID&T—where he oversaw the prominent Sensation dance events—and the trance label Armada.

Throughout this period he kept producing and formalized Broken Boundaries Recordings. In 2008 Ferreck Dawn issued “Bottled Emotions/Bring That Bass” on his own imprint and “SAS/April” through Cloud 9 Red. Subsequent dance tracks surfaced on Smoke Records and Melomine over the following years. Nervous Records acquired the SaTrinxa EP in 2011, Leaders of the New School released the Sidestep EP, and Spinnin’ Deep put out the single “Sometimes.”

A 2013 partnership with fellow Dutch producers Redondo yielded the minimalist, percussion-focused house cut “Tattoo Girl.” Their 2014 successor, the retro-styled “Love Too Deep,” marked Ferreck Dawn’s breakthrough, peaking at number 48 on the U.K. singles chart and accumulating more than a million streams within its first months. Spinnin’ Deep released a third joint effort, “Something Else,” in early 2015, after which further collaborations followed with BISHØP, Franky Rizardo, Joe Stone, and Rene Amesz. Simma Black issued the Bang Bang EP in 2017; the next year Club Sweat delivered the You & Me EP and Toolroom issued the single “Wilderness,” while additional joint releases appeared with the Deepshakerz (“All Nighter”) and Robosonic (“In Arms”), among others.
