Biography
Brassmunk originated as a Canadian hip-hop crew in 1997. During their formative period the quartet of S-Roc, Clip, Agile, and May 19 issued a succession of independent singles until Virgin offered a recording contract. Their debut EP, Dark Sunrise, appeared on the 54th/Virgin imprint in 2002; the following year the release was expanded into a full-length album that incorporated the group’s earlier material. Critics responded favorably, and the project earned a nomination for Best Rap Recording at the 2004 Juno Awards. Before the follow-up, FEWturistic, reached stores, founding member May 19 departed and was succeeded by Reign; the new album surfaced in 2007 and brought Brassmunk a second Juno nomination, this time at the 2008 ceremony.
