Josh Korody, operating under the Breeze moniker as a Toronto-based producer, favors an unpredictable, impulsive, and deeply joint method in crafting rhythm-driven pop. The 2021 album Only Up emerged after he wrote, tracked, and finalized its mix in barely more than seven days, pulling in contributors connected to Ducks Ltd., TOPS, Broken Social Scene, Moon King, and assorted other projects to realize his vivid concept.

Korody started Breeze during 2012 while already playing in the experimental shoegaze outfit Beliefs. At first framed as a dream pop group, its earliest material leaned into atmospheric, guitar-centered indie rock. He developed that version alongside bandmates Kyle Connolly and Shawn Dell, issuing the debut album Record in 2017. The follow-up project took a sharp turn in style. Although he kept working with Connolly, Breeze shifted toward a largely solo format featuring a broad array of participants, built around Korody’s songwriting and studio production choices. Only Up from 2021 moved well beyond indie rock, instead channeling influences from somber synth pop and the Manchester dance scene of the 1990s. The record included appearances from rapper Cadence Weapon, Tess Parks, and several peers drawn from Toronto’s independent music community.
