Biography
Finley and Isla Brentwood, who perform as Brentwood Duo, create spare acoustic pop set apart by crisp vocal harmonies. The siblings grew up in Arrowtown, New Zealand, before moving to Melbourne, Australia, in 2014 to devote themselves to music on a full-time basis. They first earned consistent employment playing at weddings and corporate functions. Their initial public attention arrived in early 2016 after actor Ryan Reynolds shared their YouTube acoustic cover of “Deadpool Rap” on his Twitter account. Teamheadkick had originally recorded the intentionally vulgar track for the Deadpool soundtrack, issued in February 2016 with the hit action film. Within weeks the duo appeared on Deadpool Reloaded, a release containing covers and remixes drawn from the soundtrack.
Later that year the pair entered the Australian edition of The X Factor, finishing tied for sixth place in the fall under mentor Iggy Azalea while accompanying themselves on Finley’s acoustic guitar. The resulting exposure enabled them to secure shows across Australia, and they continued adding new live covers of songs by Shawn Mendes, Major Lazer, and Twenty One Pilots to their YouTube channel.
