Tall Heights, the Massachusetts duo headquartered in Boston, unveiled their first full-length album in 2013, delivering an intimate strain of indie folk that soon grew more expansive. Their initial major-label outing arrived in 2016 with Neptune, an atmospheric pop record steeped in evocative textures and informed by progressive folk as well as electro-tinged indie pop. At every stage the pair placed central value on the blended, lyrical vocal harmonies shared by Tim Harrington and Paul Wright. Live work included runs alongside Ben Folds, Cake, and Judah & the Lion, with the duo also serving as Folds’ backing band. Their 2022 release Juniors confronted themes of grief, loss, and cautious hope.

Formed in 2010 by Harrington on vocals and guitar together with Wright on vocals and cello, the two had first worked together as high-school students in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Early years found them busking throughout Boston streets, financing their debut album via a 100-day marathon of street performances. After two independent EPs, Rafters in 2011 and Running of the Bulls in 2012, they issued their first LP, 2013’s Man of Stone. Each of these projects captured the polished acoustic sound refined through years of city performances. That palette widened on the 2015 EP Holding On, Holding Out, which brought drums, electric guitar, and keyboard into the arrangements.

A subsequent deal with Sony Masterworks paved the way for Neptune, their 2016 major-label full-length, whose broader, electronics-shaded sound was co-produced by Oliver Hill and Steve Wall. The same producers rejoined Tall Heights for the 2018 album Pretty Colors for Your Actions, again released on Sony Masterworks. The year featured extensive touring that encompassed headline dates and amphitheater support slots for Ben Folds and Cake. A series of singles followed in 2021, among them the lush “Hear It Again” and the heartfelt ballads “Raindrop” and “The Mountain.” Both tracks appeared on the inward-looking Juniors issued in 2022.
