Biography
Broken Records emerged in 2006 as an emotionally charged indie rock band based in Edinburgh, Scotland, built around Arne Kolb, Ian Turnbull, David Fothergill, Jamie Sutherland, Rory Sutherland, Dave Smith, and Andrew Keeney. Their expansive sound, which has invited comparisons ranging from the Arcade Fire to Jeff Buckley, draws on guitars, bass, violin, cello, accordion, mandolin, piano, trumpet, glockenspiel, and drums. The soaring septet delivered its self-titled debut EP in 2007, generating enthusiasm among critics and listeners around the world. A string of singles came next, along with high-profile concerts alongside the Futureheads, Editors, Sons and Daughters, and the Twilight Sad; these activities paved the way for studio work on the band’s debut full-length album, Until the Earth Begins to Part, in 2009. Their second release, the stadium-sized Let Me Come Home, appeared in October of the following year.
