Biography
From Olympia, Washington, Broken Water produces a hazy, atmospheric density that echoes key 1990s acts while shaping those echoes into a singular identity. The lineup features drummer Kanako Pooknyw and guitarist Jon Hanna, who first connected in Sisters, plus bassist Abigail Ingram. Their approach draws from the textures of Unwound, Sonic Youth, and My Bloody Valentine, generating a droning yet richly melodic murk in which submerged melodies surface from the layered grit. Whet became their debut full-length in 2010 on Radio Is Down and was followed the next year by the Peripheral Star EP. Tempest arrived in 2012 as the band’s second album on Hardly Art.
