Biography
Members of the defunct Syracuse, New York noise punk outfit Shoppers unexpectedly reconvened to launch Perfect Pussy, an ecstatic punk force. Director of the big-budget Syracuse-shot film Adult World contacted vocalist Meredith Graves about portraying a local punk group on screen, prompting her to gather ex-Shoppers musicians into what she described in interviews as a "fake band" that produced one "fake song" for the production. Once shooting wrapped, that fabricated project gradually evolved into a genuine ensemble whose sound blended the intense pummel of Fucked Up with the exuberant joy of Ponytail, while Graves delivered raw and personal lyrics in a shouted/spoken style. By late 2013 the group had attracted widespread attention through several much-reported performances at the CMJ festival and the release of the four-song demo cassette I Have Lost All Desire for Feeling. Following their signing to Captured Tracks, Perfect Pussy unveiled the official debut album Say Yes to Love in March 2014. Critics responded favorably, and the band devoted much of the year to international touring, during which they also released a split 7" with Joanna Gruesome plus a 7" containing the demo track "I" alongside an unreleased live recording. In 2015 the label reissued I Have Lost All Desire for Feeling on vinyl, appending two bonus tracks drawn from the Joanna Gruesome split 7".
