Bruno Råberg, born and raised in Sweden, works as a versatile acoustic bassist whose reflective and exploratory approach to post-bop and lightly experimental jazz has frequently adopted an ECM-inspired sensibility. Along with fellow Nordic players, he occasionally weaves in threads of Scandinavian folk tradition. At age twenty, in 1974, the bassist joined Swedish trombonist Eje Thelin as a sideman; afterward he relocated to the United States and has lived much of his adult life in the Boston region. He arrived in Boston in 1981 after receiving a scholarship to the New England Conservatory. Upon completing his B.A. in jazz studies there in 1984, Råberg joined the faculty of Berklee College of Music as an associate professor. During the 1990s he issued three leader dates: Pentimento in 1992 on Boston Skyline, Orbis in 1996 on Orbis Music, and Presence in 1999 on Orbis Music.
