Portuguese fado vocalist Camané, born Carlos Manuel Moutinho Paiva dos Santos in Oeiras in 1967, built a close creative partnership with singer/songwriter José Mário Branco. His first album appeared in 1995 when EMI issued Uma Noite de Fados under Branco’s production. The same veteran Portuguese artist also guided the next three studio releases: Na Linha da Vida (1998), Esta Coisa da Alma (2000), and Pelo Dia Dentro (2001). Commercial breakthrough arrived with the live set Como Sempre...Como Dantes in 2003, which reached number 16 on the Portuguese albums chart. A best-of collection, The Art of Camané: The Prince of Fado, followed in 2004. Camané’s fifth studio album, Sempre de Mim, emerged in 2008 once more under Branco’s supervision. The eagerly awaited and widely praised recording held the top chart position for three weeks and remained in the Top Ten for nine weeks total. A Top 20 live follow-up, Camané ao Vivo no Coliseu -- Sempre de Mim, appeared in 2009.
