In 1971, sixty-five individuals came together in Sudbury, Ontario, to create CANO (Cooperative des Artistes de Nouvel Ontario) with the goal of uniting the music of French and English Canadia. After signing with A&M in 1975, the group issued Tous Dans L'Meme Bateau in 1976, Au Nord de Notre Vie in 1977, Eclipse in 1978, Rendezvous in 1979, Spirit of the North in 1980, and Visible in 1985. The roster featured Marcel Aymar, David Burt, Michel Dasti, John W. Doerr, Michel Kendel, Wasyl Kohut, Rachel Paiement, and Andre Paiement, who founded the collective and served as co-leader until his suicide in 1978.
