Biography
Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist Carla dal Forno crafts atmospheric, introspective songs shaped by post-punk, dub, and ambient pop. After contributing to collectives such as Mole House and F ingers, she launched her solo career in 2016 via the well-received album You Know What It's Like. The more polished Look Up Sharp (2019) and Come Around (2022) each appeared after dal Forno had settled in successive cities abroad.
She established the Melbourne-based lo-fi trio Mole House, which put out several singles and cassettes from 2011 through 2013. Dal Forno next joined Sam Karmel and Tarquin Manek in the abstract post-punk outfit Fingers Pty Ltd; the group delivered the 2013 cassette Broken Fingers on Night People. Alongside Manek she also explored more experimental territory as Tarcar, resulting in the Mince Glace EP issued by Blackest Ever Black at the close of 2014. The same label released the trio’s strong 2015 album Hide Before Dinner after they had changed their name to F ingers. Another F ingers cassette, Trilogy: They Got the Best Heart, came out independently that year.
Dal Forno had moved to Berlin by 2016, when BEB issued her first solo single, “Fast Moving Cars.” Later that year the full-length You Know What It's Like appeared, followed in 2017 by the four-track EP The Garden. In 2018, during her initial lengthy North American tour, she self-released the cassette EP Top of the Pops, which featured renditions of songs by the B-52s, Lana Del Rey, and LiLiPUT. Her second album, Look Up Sharp, came out on her own Kallista Records in 2019 after she had left London for the smaller Victorian town of Castlemaine. Her third solo record, Come Around, arrived in 2022 and incorporated a version of “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by the United States of America.
