Born José Carlos Cano Fernández, the gifted vocalist and composer Carlos Cano first entered the realm of popular music upon penning his initial composition, “La Miseria,” in 1968. Drawn toward verse, he aligned himself with the Poesia 70 collective and took part in a 1972 homage to Federico García Lorca. His debut album, A Duras Penas, appeared in 1976, with A La Luz De Los Cantares arriving the following year and Crónicas Granadinas emerging in 1978. Through performances that addressed regional social concerns, Carlos Cano earned recognition among the leading figures of the traditional music sphere. His 2000 release, De Lo Perdido y Otras Coplas, marked a final attempt to safeguard the legacy of Spanish folk traditions.
