Biography
Born into entertainment as the offspring of Beach Boys visionary Brian Wilson and vocalist Marilyn, Carnie Wilson seemed fated for a life in the spotlight from the start. She joined forces with sibling Wendy and Chynna Phillips to create the soft rock/pop powerhouse Wilson Phillips, whose self-titled debut album delivered multiple chart-topping singles. The trio’s sophomore effort met with far less acclaim, prompting an early disbandment. Carnie and Wendy persisted in songwriting and recording together, even collaborating with their iconic father on new material. She later launched a daytime program titled Carnie!, yet it folded quickly amid a crowded field of celebrity-hosted talk formats. Wilson also stood among the earliest public figures to openly address undergoing gastric bypass surgery, an intervention that resolved her long struggle with obesity—though the weight gradually returned, particularly following the arrival of her first child. That ongoing journey drew further attention when she joined the cast of VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club in 2006. The original lineup of Wilson Phillips reconvened to produce a fresh album in 2004. Carnie maintains an active role as a songwriter and recording artist, regularly lending her voice to Beach Boys performances on their Endless Summer tours, and most recently completed a collection of lullabies dedicated to her infant daughter.
