Biography
Caron Wheeler built an early reputation as a versatile singer suited to both dance and urban contemporary styles through her association with Soul II Soul. Prior to that breakthrough she had performed with the reggae outfits Brown Sugar and Afrodiziak, later adding session work for Phil Collins, Erasure, and Elvis Costello. On Soul II Soul’s 1989 album Keep on Movin’ she supplied the lead vocals for the tracks “Keep on Movin’” and “Back to Life.” The LP went on to sell two million copies, and “Back to Life” became a Top Ten hit on both the pop and R&B charts. After leaving the group in 1990 she issued her first solo album, UK Blak, on EMI; her next project arrived three years later with Beach of the War Goddess.
