Biography
During the peak of the Brit-Asian period in the early 1980s, Chirag Pehchen blended Punjabi rhythms effectively with elements drawn from reggae, ragga, hip-hop, soul, rock, and dance. The ensemble, established in the early 1980s under the leadership of percussionist and vocalist Amarjit Sidhu, received frequent airplay on LBC Radio's Geetmala program as well as appearances on the BBC TV series Network East. In addition, Sidhu contributed significantly to the development of England's Bhanga scene through his organization of the yearly Asian Pop awards and his founding of the Kamlee record label.
