Biography
Chitti Babu, sometimes listed under the alternate spelling Chittibabu, first gained notice as a child prodigy. His birth is placed around 1936, and accounts indicate that he appeared onstage in public by the time he turned twelve. Appalachariar provided his earliest instruction, after which Emani Sankara Sastri became his teacher. Frequent broadcasts on All India Radio followed. In time he earned a place among the most highly regarded vina players of his generation, with recordings issued on the Japanese King label and the Tips Raga Series.
