Biography
Having completed her training at New York City’s Juilliard School, Christina Courtin positions herself at the intersection of contemporary folk, vocal jazz, and alternative pop/rock. A lifelong New Yorker, she started violin lessons at age three; her swift command of the instrument soon sparked parallel interests in singing, songwriting, and stage performance. While enrolled at Juilliard, Courtin joined forces with Yo-Yo Ma, Dawn Upshaw, and Osvaldo Golijov, contributing both her voice and her violin. Dawn Upshaw’s longtime home, Nonesuch Records, extended an offer, prompting Courtin to sign and relocate temporarily to Los Angeles, where she cut her first album. Issued in 2009, the self-titled debut lists Courtin and two of her bandmates among its producers.
