Biography
Born in Helena, MT, Colin Meloy has led the groups Happy Cactus, Tarkio, and the Decemberists. His initial solo effort arrived in 2005, as he took to the road behind the six-song EP Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey. The next year brought another tour, this time alongside fellow singer/songwriters Laura Veirs and Amy Annelle, during which he offered a further self-released limited-edition collection of covers drawn from the work of lauded British folk legend Shirley Collins. In 2008 Meloy issued his first “official” solo album, Colin Meloy Sings Live!, through the Kill Rock Stars label; the subsequent tour with fellow Portland, OR, singer Laura Gibson included sales of his third self-made tribute set, devoted on this occasion to soul legend Sam Cooke.
