Biography
Leroy Burgess, a prolific figure in dance music as singer, songwriter, keyboardist, and producer, has employed Convertion among his numerous aliases. The Martha Williams composition "Let's Do It," released through Sam Records—the New York imprint founded by Sam Weiss—stood as his most successful outing under the Convertion name. This buoyant dancefloor staple, an effervescent jam, reached number 90 on the R&B chart in early 1981. The smooth "Sweet Thing" emerged as another Convertion staple when Vanguard Records, the New York label, issued it in summer 1983. Burgess later revisited the track alongside Swedish house group Slippery People, resulting in the February 2001 single credited to Slippery People Featuring Leroy Burgess and issued by Sweden’s Rip-a-Dip Recordings.
