Biography
Crisman draws its name from Denton, Texas singer/songwriter Madeline Crisman Dowd and centers on intimate bedroom pop laced with slowcore textures, open-ended melodies, and quiet emotional friction. Formed in 2018, the act delivered its self-titled debut full-length via Top Shelf Records in 2020.
Dowd moved from her native Alpharetta, Georgia to Denton, Texas in 2011, where she encountered Dallas musician Boone Patrello (aka Dead Sullivan) and entered the regional D.I.Y. circuit. Their instinctive rapport produced the 2018 demo cassette Crisman Tape, which prompted Top Shelf Records to sign the project the next year. The resulting Crisman, fusing hazy lo-fi dream pop with dense, tuneful slowcore, arrived in 2020.
