Biography
Following a period of persistent performances across the southern states, Cry of Love issued their first full-length record, Brother, during 1993. The group stood apart from the prevailing hard rock acts of the 1990s, favoring neither heavy riffs drawn from Black Sabbath nor elements borrowed from punk or the emerging grunge movement. Rather, they devoted themselves to reviving the established hard rock and Southern rock idioms that had defined the 1970s. Echoes of bands ranging from Bad Company through Lynyrd Skynyrd surfaced throughout their work, with every hallmark of that classic era present; guitarist Audley Freed crafted guitar figures that evoked unreleased tracks from 1975. Adult-oriented rock listeners responded by propelling both "Peace Pipe" and "Bad Thing" into prominent rotation on radio playlists.
