Cuby & The Blizzards

Although Cuby & the Blizzards remained largely unnoticed by English-speaking audiences, the group ranked among Holland’s leading blues acts from the mid-’60s onward. Their earliest singles leaned toward a beat/punk sound, most notably “Stumble & Fall” and “Your Body Not Your Soul,” tracks that resurfaced decades later on multiple Dutch beat anthologies. Before long, however, the band adopted a more conventional blues approach. In the wider rock and pop sphere their principal distinctions include a short-lived stint backing Van Morrison during the interval after he left Them and before launching his solo work, an episode whose particulars are still unclear, plus an invitation extended to lead guitarist Eelco Gelling to join John Mayall’s Bluebreakers—an offer he ultimately turned down.
