Daniel Brandt first gained recognition as one of the originators of the electro-acoustic group Brandt Brauer Frick, prior to launching a career on his own. He entered the world in Wiesbaden, Germany, later enrolling at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and completing his studies in the film and television division during 2011. Ahead of that graduation, he had already started collaborating onstage with Jan Brauer and Paul Frick, laying the groundwork for the ensemble that became Brandt Brauer Frick. Their first full-length release, the 2010 album You Make Me Real, introduced what the trio termed “emotional body music.” Positioned between orchestral traditions and dancefloor energy, the group appeared in both concert halls and festival settings such as the Southbank Centre, Centre Pompidou, Coachella, and Glastonbury. Alongside these musical endeavors, Brandt worked on film-related projects through the Park Bennett collective, creating videos and live visual content for outlets including the BBC, Vice, MTV, and The Guardian. He also helped operate the Gym label, which issued electronic recordings by artists such as Max Graef, Emika, and Nina Kravitz. Brandt Brauer Frick delivered its fourth album, Joy, in 2016, after which Brandt signed with London’s Erased Tapes label the next year to prepare his first solo project. Although he initially envisioned an album constructed solely from cymbals, the scope of his concepts quickly exceeded that constraint. With the exception of trombone, hang drum, and cello, Brandt performed every part on Eternal Something, extending the blend of electronic and acoustic elements he had previously developed in Brandt Brauer Frick.
